Went for a wonderful walk today around the Orakei Korako Cave and Thermal Park which is between Taupo and Rotorua. Orakei Korako means 'The place of adorning'. 20 million litres of hot water flow over the 'silica' (a hard, unreactive, colorless compound that occurs as the mineral
quartz and as a principal constituent of sandstone and other rocks) terraces everyday. So the silica in the hot water flows from the geysers and as the water cools, it crystallises into terraces and pools, forming giant staircases or waterfalls.

Day 54 Hamuranga Springs
I went for a walk with my sister-in-law to the Hamuranga Springs in Rotorua. It was a one kilometre walk in striking scenery. It is most famous for its clear fresh water springs and Redwood forest. It is the deepest natural spring in the North Island.
