On route between the showers and the gloomy skies I managed to catch a reasonable glimpse of the 'Hauraki Plains'. Its claim to fame is that it is incredibly flat (for New Zealand landscape), it is a big dairy producing area and has large peat bogs supplying Hauraki peat growing medium.
